The world is warming up. Climate change is a big topic of discussion. As we continue to burn the planet’s coal, gas, and oil, the greenhouse gases continue to pour into the atmosphere. The people that are going to be hurt the most are one’s in uncivilizied countries and areas.
The causes of temperature increase are the industrialized companies burn coal and natural gases for a source of ENERGY. The world’s energy demand is very very high and finding that energy is in the burnig of natural sources. Yes, we do have renewable resources such a hydro-electricity and wind, but they poroduce about 1/5 of our energy. The other 4/5 is from the burning of oil, gas and coal, but also you have to include nuclear energy and natural gas.
Many problems have been occuring since the industrialization and modernization of all the countries. In another post that I have called “Kyoto Protocol” have limited the burning of fossil fuels to reduce GHG gases. This is a big step towards a greener planet.

The project we have been doing on climate change makes me believe that humans are selfish and inconsiderate. There are many reasons that I believe this to be true and I have constructed all those ideas into a “Prezi” that will be used as my final presentation for this project.

Im running out of time, but no need to worry i’ll pull it all together! On to my next post, which will be on penguins. The expected reasons for the loss of penguins are pin-pointed down to the decline in krill and squid. Also, the melting ice caps that the penguins in Antartica are known to live on. Although this sounds drastic the penguins have been known to adapt to the climate change over the last 3 million years. That sounds impressive to me! Even though these results seem pleasing, the speed of climate change is becoming to fast for the birds to adapt. The birds are being known to abandon parts of the world they were known to because of the loss of sea-ice that they use for breeding.
We know that Antartica is the most common place for penguins. Things have changed there. We are constantly being told about the polar bears and how the melting polar ice-caps are affecting their way of life, but they aren’t the only ones. The artic panguins have drasticly decreased over the last century. Some of the affected penguins are the Adelie and the Emperor. Their breeding numbers have changed from 300 to only 9! The Adelie penguins have declined by 70% along the Anvers Islands. Instead they have moved up to the Ross Islands to adapt, the affects aren’t that great. Now they are thriving!

Do you know what the Kyoto Protocol is? Probably not. You may think it’s some new kind of car or advanced medicine. No. It is an agreement. It’s an international agreement linked to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change. There are currently 37 countries in this agreement saying they can only emmit so much greenhouse emmisions (GHG). The convention encourages industrialized countries to stablize their emmisions, while the Protocol commits them to do so.
What are the mechanisms?
1) Emissions Trading- Better known as “the carbon market”
2)Clean Development Mechanism (CDM)
3) Joint Implementation (JI)
The emmisions actually have to be monitored. How are they done?
1) Reports- Submitting annual reports of emmisions
2) Adaption- designed to assist countries in adpating the adverse affects of climate change
3) Registry System- track and record the transactions by Parties under the mechanisms
The Kyoto Protocol is a big step forward in the process to reducing GHG gases. After the first period ends in 2012, a new framework will need to be established so that it can deliver emission reductions.
